The openness percentage refers to the amount of sunlight that filters through your shades based on how tightly the fabric is woven. Higher percentages allow more light to filter through, while lower percentages allow less light through.
Valance
Window valances create a sleek border covering the roller tube and hardware to provide a flush look. Not only do they enhance your window aesthetically, they also help insulate your window. Fabric cassettes are valances with fabric matching your shade over top to create a seamless window appearance.
Note: The valance size is determined by the length of the shade:
- For shades less than 96″ in length, a 3″ valance will be provided.
- For shades 96″ and over in length, a 4″ valance will be provided.

Perfect for homes with children, pets, or people with disabilities. Eliminate all pull cords, tilt wands, and chains that pose a strangulation risk to children and pets. Easily control your window treatments with a remote control, smartphone app, or smart home device. Battery-operated shades function similarly to a cell phone; you charge the shade for 8 hours, and it will operate for 6 to 12 months. Hardwired shades connect directly to the electrical system, either by wiring directly to the motor or by plugging into a standard electrical wall outlet.

Openness Factor
The percentage in openness indicates how much sunlight will filter through your shades based on how tightly the fabric is woven. Most homeowners choose a 5% openness for their screen shades. This is the ideal percentage to enjoy views without any unnecessary glare, while protecting furniture from harmful UV rays. Anything below 5% openness is recommended for maximum shading, privacy, and energy savings.

*NOTE: For a flushed mount the minimum required inside mount depth is 3" for window shades up to 96" in length. For window shades over 96" in length, 4" of window depth is required for a flush look.
Factory Deductions
Inside mount fabric will have a deduction of 1 1/4" made from the factory to allow the mechanism to work properly.
Do not account for these deductions when measuring your windows.
Outside mount roller shades come with no deductions.
Motorization Option
Motorized shades will come to you already programmed, and ready to operate.
A 1-channel remote can operate on a single frequency - One roller shade or a group of window shades.
The 5-channel and 16-channel remote allows you to operate multiple window shades or groups of window shades. We suggest having a dedicated remote control for every room.
When upgrading to multi-channel/frequency remote, please select 'No Remote' for any additional motorized shades you want to add to and power with it.
Add-on Smart WiFi Hub allows you to operate your motorized shade with Alexa and Google Voice Assistant.

Quick Tips to Remember:
Use a steel measuring tape- If you get a 1/16" or 1/32" increment for width, round down to the nearest 1/8"
- If you get a 1/16" or 1/32" increment for height, round down to the nearest 1/8"

Installation
ShadeMonster offers free shipping within the contiguous United States for any product under certain sizes and weight restrictions. For items over the maximum restrictions, the shipping costs will be calculated at checkout based on the shipping carrier.

We are not currently shipping shutters to Hawaii or Alaska. Please contact us directly regarding shipping fees associated with orders outside of the contiguous United States.
No shipments can be made to military bases outside the continental United States (APO and FPO addresses).
3-Year Limited Warranty
ShadeMonster extends the following warranty to the original purchaser of window treatments, which are properly installed in the original window, with proof of purchase. This warranty is in addition to any warranty provided by manufacturers of products sold under brand names.
What is covered:
- Materials, operating mechanisms (included cords and ladders) and other parts are covered for 3 years. You will be charged for replacement parts on any order that's more than 3 years old.
- Manufacturer defects and shipping damage (reported within 14 calendar days)

Shades are good quality and fit perfectly!
Two of the three we ordered were broken on arrival. Reached out to Customer Service and ended up having to reach out twice (with several weeks in between) to get a call back and a claim filed. The replacement parts were shipped out that same day and arrived a few days later.
There was even a super nice handwritten note apologizing for the damaged mounting plastic parts.
Would definitely order from here again. For reference, we got the 5% openness solar shades.
